Boomerang

Some sad news from Australia… the inventor of the boomerang grenade died today.

                                                          -Johnny Carson

We need to be careful with the ideas that enter our heads because the consequences of our actions can be deadly. God has given us a lifetime to prevent the most awful consequence.

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ezekiel 18:32

For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; so turn, and live.”

Time is fleeting. Think about it.

A World of Our Own

The Seekers sang “A World of Our Own” in 1966. It was a hit because that generation believed a person was capable of creating his or her own life. Interview them now, 58 years later, and they will tell you it was a pipe dream. There are too many variables in trying to fashion your own dreams.

How about forgetting about such nonsense and trust the One who planted you here in the first place, the only One who has complete understanding of the future.

Psalm 56:3-4

When I am afraid, I put my trust in You. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?

Psalm 37:5

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.

Allow Him to design your future.

Give it some thought.

Searched

Psalm 139:1-6

O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. …

The Psalmist David looked at his life on the planet and came to the full realization of God’s part. Do you have the same things to say at this juncture in your life? If not, there is still time, but maybe not much time.

Give it some thought.

Promises

How much can you handle in life? Do you believe God? Have you had any experience with Jehovah? Can you be tested? Do you know the promises?

Abraham is called the father of all who believe. Here’s what he was capable of.

Hebrews 11:17-19

By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son, of whom it was said, “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” He considered that God was able even to raise him from the dead, from which, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back.

Give it some consideration and apply it to your life.

Heart Murmur

I’m worried about your heart murmur,” the doc told Jack.

“I’ve always had a heart murmur,” Jack protested.

“Yeah,” replied the doc, “but now the murmur has started humming.”

“That doesn’t sound good!” Jack was getting worried now.

“It’s worse than you think,” the doc said. “It’s humming ‘Nearer My God to Thee.’”

If you listen to your heart with the stethoscope of Scripture, you’ll hear the same message.

Ezekiel 18:32

For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; so turn, and live.”

Hebrews 9:27

And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,

Can you hear it? Do something.

Go to Work

I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.

                                                                          – Thomas A. Edison

Your outlook on life is so important. I have a sixty-five-year-old friend who just shingled a whole roof all by himself. His outlook on life is, “I guess that is what I have to do next.”

You have to love people that realize work is a part of life given to us by God. Does the Scripture address it? Glad you asked.

Ecclesiastes 3:12-13

I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God’s gift to man.

Go to work. It’s good for you.

Give it some thought.

Down in the Boondocks

Down in the Boondocks is a song written by Joe South. It was first recorded by American artist Billy Joe Royal as his debut single, and it became a hit in 1965. It was about a boy from the wrong side of town in love with a girl from the right side of town whose father was his boss. What a mess! He didn’t fit in.

Speaking of messes, we were born in one. The Bible declares us to be sinners and enemies of God.  As such, we are spiritually dead and lost. What a mess!

It’s not over, however.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

The boy from the wrong side of town was trying to find a way out, and as believers, we have accepted what He provided as our way out of the mess.

Give it some thought.
