Make It Roll

Wrecked cars, trucks, trains, marriages, churches and lives have a common thread. Listening to bad information and allowing the speed of life to control destiny can wreak havoc.

“Wreck of The Old ’97”

Well they gave him his orders at Monroe, Virginia,
Said: “Steve, you’re way behind time,
“This is not 38, this is Ol’ 97,
“Put her into Spencer on time.”

Then he turned around and said to his black, greasy fireman,
“Shovel on a little more coal.
“And when we cross that White Oak mountain,
“Watch Ol’ ’97 roll.”

And then a telegram come from Washington station,
This is how it read:
“Oh that brave engineer that run ol 97,
“Is lyin in old Danville dead.”

‘Cos he was going down a grade making 90 miles an hour,
The whistle broke into a scream.
He was found in the wreck with his hand on the throttle,
Scalded to death by the steam.

Poor old Steve is lying there dead because he allowed the impossible demands of others to guide his day. It was a wild ride, but where did it end up?

Here’s what Scripture has to say:

John 16:13

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.

Psalm 25:4-5

Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.

Give it some thought.
