Laughing

The officer asked, “You drinking?”

I answered, “You buying?” The officer and I just laughed and laughed.

I need bail money.

This reminds me of the foolish thoughts of man towards the authority of the One who rules the universe. Man believes God is deaf and God laughs at such thoughts.

Psalm 59:7-8

See what they spew from their mouths—
the words from their lips are sharp as swords,
and they think, “Who can hear us?”
But You laugh at them, Lord;
You scoff at all those nations.

Do you make God laugh? I pray that is not the case. Give it some thought.

Don’t Forget

TO MY CHILDREN: DON’T MAKE FUN OF ME FOR ASKING QUESTIONS

ABOUT MY CELL PHONE. I ONCE TAUGHT YOU HOW TO USE A SPOON.

-Anonymous

How come children don’t want to acknowledge where they came from? How come they don’t want to consider the One who brought them into this world? How come they think they have it all together? How come they believe God has dementia?

Psalm 49:15

Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely, they may forget, yet I will not forget you.

God put you here and doesn’t forget it. Don’t you forget it. Give it some consideration.

Mr. Bojangles

“Mr. Bojangles” is a song that drew the portrait of a down-and-out traveling man named Bojangles who danced a lick across his jail cell, yet still mourned his dog after twenty years. Its lyrics were inspired by a stranger Jerry Jeff Walker met during his time in a New Orleans jail after being arrested in the French Quarter on July 5, 1965.

The lesson from the song is that when one has all the talent to live life to the fullest, alcohol can take it all away like a thief. How does the Bible describe this tax-revenue-making drug?

Proverbs 20:1

Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.

Hosea 4:11

Whoredom, wine, and new wine, which take away the understanding.

Proverbs 23:31-32

Do not look on the wine when it is red,
When it sparkles in the cup,
When it swirls around smoothly;
At the last it bites like a serpent,
And stings like a viper.

Give it some thought before it is too late.

It’s a Fool’s Game

It’s a fool’s game” is a line in a popular song from years gone by. However, the fool’s game has been repeated time and time again since the garden of Eden. Does the Bible address it? Glad you asked.

Proverbs 1:7

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 18:2

A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.

Proverbs 10:23

Doing wrong is like a joke to a fool, but wisdom is pleasure to a man of understanding.

Don’t play the fool’s game. Nobody wins. Give it some thought.

It Might Have Been

“Of all the words of mice and men, the saddest are, ‘It might have been.'” –Kurt Vonnegut

If only?  Why didn’t I?  Am I on the wrong road?  These are examples of haunting questions. Truth of the matter is, we don’t understand the complexities of life. We have some input, but so do the powers of darkness, others who share our planet, and God. We’d best tune our frequency to detect His.

Proverbs 19:21

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.

Proverbs 15:22

Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.

Give this some careful consideration.

Pray

Larry Gatlin sang it very well. It was about the fog lifting and the clarity of knowing you can’t get through without the Creator. It’s a shame that it takes a spiritual hurricane to bring that understanding about. God had to confront Adam and Eve. In fact, the Lord’s tool chest is full of ways to bring someone to his knees.

I never thought I needed help before,

I thought that I could do things by myself.

Now I know I just can’t take it anymore.

With a humble heart, on bended knee,

I’m beggin’ You, “Please, help me.”

If you don’t know how to pray, I suggest starting with this one.

Romans 8:26

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

Matthew 6:5-7

But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

 Give it some careful consideration.

Consideration

Whom are you building that castle for? Will what you leave behind be of value to your progeny or a curse? How much eternal life insurance have you purchased? Good questions, but the window of opportunity to come up with profitable answers is very short.

Hebrews 6:10

For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for His name in serving the saints, as you still do.

Titus 3:8

The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people.

Give it some careful consideration before time runs out.
