Tennessee Whiskey

Would God get someone drunk? Glad you asked.

Jeremiah 13:13

“Then tell them, ‘No, this is what the Lord means: I will fill everyone in this land with drunkenness—from the king sitting on David’s throne to the priests and the prophets, right down to the common people of Jerusalem.

From the context, confusion came not from Tennessee Whiskey, but their own blend of lies, pride, rebellion, idolatry, materialism, and self-centeredness. This caused them to lose touch with reality. They were behind the wheel and what a wreck that led to.

By the way, what is your drink of choice?  God may let you have it to the full.

Give it some thought.

No Other Way

The first step on the way to victory is to recognize the enemy.

– Corrie Ten Boom

Isaiah 54:17

No tool that is made to fight against you will do well. And you will prove wrong every tongue that says you are guilty. This is the gift given to the servants of the Lord. I take away their guilt and make them right,” says the Lord.

2 Corinthians 11:14

And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

Our enemy is a master of disguise with an angelic voice, so don’t forget who nailed your sins on His cross at Calvary.

Give it some thought.

Teachers

How can I put out the devotionals every day? Glad you asked. The reason is simple. I’ve had a multitude of effective teachers who have invested in me and now I reap from their investment. Also, life itself gave me a lot of material. If these short thoughts have encouraged you, it is in large part because of those educators. Sorry I didn’t thank them along the way.

The apostle Paul asked that of the churches in Galatia.

Galatians 6:6

Those who are taught the word of God should provide for their teachers, sharing all good things with them.

Give it some thought. Life is better without regret.

Homesick

This was what someone made up while trying to help a homesick person.

I was in Los Angeles the other day and I saw a bumper sticker on a car that read, “I miss Chicago.”

So I broke the window, stole the radio and left a note that read, “I hope this helps.”

That probably didn’t help but would probably bring back memories of the way it really was. Some individuals color their past in the same way.

Ecclesiastes 7:10

Say not, “Why were the former days better than these?” For it is not from wisdom that you ask this.

If you want to consider a real and lasting home, consider the one God has designed for the believer. The future is certainly better than the past.

Give it some consideration.

American Pie

Singer-songwriter Don McLean writes the iconic song, “American Pie,” in 1970. He was invited to UMFK when I was in college because that song made the charts. This song was eight minutes and forty seconds long and made absolutely no sense. Even today, some of my generation sit around and smoke pot, trying to come up with a meaning for the song.

I sure am glad the Bible is not clouded in such chaos.

Proverbs 1:22

“How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge?

1 Corinthians 14:33

For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,

Please listen to things that make sense. Give it some thought.

Old Men Crying

Why do old men cry? Google this one, and you’ll have reading for the day.

Some suggest that hormonal changes may make aging men more emotional, or that as we age, we care less about maintaining a stoic posture. I’m not so sure that’s the answer, but with age, it is certainly harder to hold back the tears. Does the Bible address this phenomenon of life here on the planet? Glad you asked.

Psalm 56:8

You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?

Psalm 126:5

Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy!

Give it some thought and go ahead and allow the tears to course down your cheeks.  God sees them, even stores them.

Possible

“Faith: It does not make things easy; it makes them possible.”

-Author unknown

Does the Bible address the subject of faith? Glad you asked.

Hebrews 11:6

And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.

Romans 10:17

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of God.

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

Now take faith by the horns and make it work for you.  Give it some thought.
