Memories

It’s just a memory without a context. I don’t know why we were in that situation. My brother was probably eleven and I was seven. He held out his thumb and a car pulled over and picked us up to give us a ride home. I was scared, but he was my brother and I thought he knew what to do.

It had a happy ending. I was the youngest of four brothers, so they all had their turn in caring for the nuisance.

Proverbs 17:17

A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

Psalm 133:1

A Song of Ascents of David: Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!

I have some good memories that I bring up once in a while. Do you? Give it some thought.

Dead

As a paramedic, I’ve seen people that looked like they were breathing, but alas they were dead. On the flip side, I’ve observed people I thought were dead, but their eyes opened and they were a living being. You just can’t tell sometimes. Does the Bible mention this phenomenon? Glad you asked.

Ephesians 5:14

Therefore, He says: “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.”

Jude 1:12

These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots;

Twice dead is really dead. Look in the mirror of God’s Word. Are you alive or dead?  Give it some careful consideration.

Storms

Storms don’t last forever. After reading that statement, I realized how much our physical world illustrates our spiritual world. You certainly need to clean up after a storm. However, storms are part of the fabric of life. They must be anticipated and handled in a biblical manner. Noah, Joseph, David and Peter will all tell you the same thing.

The following are the realities of life:

Job 30:22

You snatch me up and drive me before the wind; you toss me about in the storm.

Psalm 107:29

He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.

Face the storm, and then thank God when He brings you to the other side.

Give it some thought.

Thanks

A Sunday School teacher asked her class what they were thankful for. One little boy said, “My glasses.” When asked why he was thankful for his glasses when most little boys were bitter about wearing them, he responded, “Because they keep the boys from fighting me and the girls from kissing me.”

When you consider life, there are many things to be thankful for. I challenge you to make a list.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Colossians 3:15

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

Give it some thought.

That Sinking Feeling

Can you imagine the feeling of hope that was on the Titanic when it left Southampton, England? Then, can you imagine the feeling of hopelessness when the reality that that supposedly unsinkable ship was going to do exactly that?

Many place their faith in the theory of evolution as they journey through this world, not knowing that just ahead is the collision of their belief system.

Luke 16:22-23

So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

What form of transportation to those heavenly gates are you placing your hope in? Give it some serious thought.

Truth

He is a political leader and claims to be a Christian. I listened to a speech he made on religion.  This individual claims he reached his conclusion about Christianity because of someone’s writings.  That someone, however, was not a writer of Holy Scripture, but only appeared on the scene well after the Bible was completed. As a matter of fact, in the politician’s whole discourse the Ancient Words were never mentioned. Religious leaders are the air beneath his wings, not God’s Holy Word.

I am not his judge, but the Word of God is, and he doesn’t pass the smell test.

1 Thessalonians 5:21

But test everything; hold fast what is good.

1 John 4:6

We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

1 John 4:1

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Many Christians applaud individuals like him because of their political views, not their Biblical views. Hmm, strange.

Please give it some thought.

Wreck

My sister bought a brand new 1965 Corvair. It was a hot-looking, little car and she was proud of it. Unfortunately, on one trip she took her eyes off the road to adjust the radio. The car ended up on its top in a brook. She wasn’t hurt on the outside, but her pride really took a beating.

The lesson for today is, don’t take your eyes off the road.

Psalm 141:8

But my eyes are toward You, O God, my Lord; in You I seek refuge; leave me not defenseless!

Psalm 16:8

I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

Stay focused now because a wreck can happen in a moment.
