Love at First Sight

How did that “love at first sight” work out for you? Yeah, that’s what I thought. It didn’t take long for that warm feeling pulsating through your chest to turn as cold as an arctic ice floe. Indeed, those momentary arousals of emotion can evaporate like the morning mist. I sure am glad that God is not like us when it comes to love.

Romans 5:8

But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

1 John 4:19

We love Him because He first loved us.

He loves you and just take a look at yourself. As the song goes, “Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me.”

Give it some consideration.

Foundation

Famous for its unintended tilt, the 184-foot tower took nearly 200 years to build – work started in 1173. Five years later, it started tilting. The tilt was noticeable as workers built the second floor. The shift was caused by shallow foundations of 10 feet and unstable subsoil.

Big mistake, wouldn’t you say? Architects didn’t consider the foundation and the way time processes things. They reminds me of people who don’t consider building on a sure foundation of Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:11

For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Matthew 7:24

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

Luke 6:48

He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.

Make sure you’re building on a good foundation. Speaking of such, I know that we can safely trust the Word of God, for it is built on precept upon precept, line upon line.  It doesn’t get better than that.

Give it some thought.

God’s Kingdom

Are you struggling with this election time? Are you saturated with the media’s take on things?

Have you lost friends? Do you see no hope for the future? Prozac can help, or you can believe the Scriptures. The choice is yours.

Daniel 2:21

He changes times and seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;

Romans 13:1

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.

Daniel 2:44

And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever,

The pundits would have us believe their opinion of what the upcoming election results will be, but let me assure you that whatever the results, God is in control. Give it some careful consideration and place your hope on God’s kingdom.

Crazy

“Just hang on there a second and I’m going to read your mind.  Okay, I have it.”

You’re thinking, “Are you as crazy as the rest of the world I’m living in?”

“Am I close?”

I don’t have to practice this gift. It comes naturally from 72 years of being on the planet. This phenomenon is seen many times in Scripture.

John 10:20

Many of them said, “He has a demon, and is insane; why listen to Him?”

Ecclesiastes 10:13

The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness, and the end of his talk is evil madness.

Acts 26:24

And as he was saying these things in his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, you are out of your mind; your great learning is driving you out of your mind.”

There is an exorbitant amount of crazy going around in our world and the cure is found in the Word of God. Don’t listen to me, but check it out for yourself.

Give it some thought.

Consideration

Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn.

                                                      – John Maxwell

I always say there are two ways to learn- the easy way and the hard way. Why choose the hard way?

Proverbs 12:1

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.

Revelation 3:19

Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.

If we, as Christians, refuse God’s written directions, He has harsher ways to get our attention.

Give it some careful consideration.

Covered

I stood there in that mill and observed the process by which expensive plywood was being manufactured. The laminated product had the clear sheet on the outside and all the deformed sheets on the inside. I related that to my life where I put forward a front to cover up what lies underneath. Sadly, there’s no hiding what I really am by nature, which is severely flawed.

Psalm 8:4

What is man that You are mindful of him?

Romans 7:18-20

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

Do you have the same struggles as the Apostle Paul which he revealed in that passage in Romans? Thankfully, he and I both sought out the cover offered by the righteousness of Christ. Have you?

Give it some thought.

Memories

Memories are swirling around in my brain like the waters below Niagara Falls. Those scattered, but sometimes connected, displays reappearing in my hard drive are sometimes a blessing and sometimes a curse. I can’t seem to find the button to delete the ones that hurt. Life is like that.

However, I look forward to the day when memories can be relegated to their proper place.

Isaiah 43:18-19

Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

Philippians 3:13-14

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Give it some thought, and forget as much of the hurtful past as you can until a new day in glory dawns.
