Love

If I could only sing like Alan Jackson

The older I get
The more I think
You only get a minute, better live while you’re in it
‘Cause it’s gone in a blink

And the older I get
The truer it is
It’s the people you love, not the money and stuff
That makes you rich

That one person to love is God. This statement was given to the children of Israel over four thousand years ago and is still relevant today.

Deuteronomy 6:5

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

You have love to offer. You just have to decide whom you give it to.

Think about it.

No, I can’t sing like Alan Jackson.

Sea Sickness

The ferry boat was being pummeled by the ten foot waves.  I was laid out in the lounge, wishing I was dead. The sad thing about this situation was that I intentionally put myself into this sickening position.

Spiritual sickness is described in James chapter one.

James 1:5-6

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

I will do my best to keep doubts out and stay focused. Sea sickness is no walk in the park.

Think about it.

Care

He was about six feet tall and two hundred thirty pounds. The boy he was chasing as he was running towards the river was three years old and convinced that he could outrun his father.

I remembered that scene from Scripture.

”All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6

It ended well for that boy because of the father’s watch care over him.

For this same reason it ends well for every believer.

Decisions

The weightiest decisions made in life concern spiritual things. Those decisions take place in a day but last for eternity.

Ruth 1:16

But Ruth said:

“Entreat me not to leave you,
Or to turn back from following after you;
For wherever you go, I will go;
And wherever you lodge, I will lodge;
Your people shall be my people,
And your God, my God.

On the plains of Moab two women were making a decision.

  1. After 3,000 years their decisions still stand.
  2. What a difference one day makes.
  3. One ends and another begins.
  4. One goes back and one goes forward.

Are you on the verge of making a major decision? Make the right one or you might regret it forever.

Think about it.

Home Run

Whenever someone new comes into our life, we wonder what he or she has to offer. Sometimes an individual can become the air beneath our wings, and at other times they can be a drag on our progress.

God hits a homerun every time He enters a life.

“The LORD passed before him and proclaimed, ‘The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.’” –Exodus 34:6-7

He was a benefit for Israel thousands of years ago, and He can be a blessing for anyone today who invites Him in.

Give it some thought.

Self-Esteem

It’s tragic to think you are something when you’re nothing-so much for self-esteem.

This is the statement the Apostle Paul made about himself.

1 Timothy 1:15

15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.

It is amazing what God can do with sinners. If you are one, you qualify for the grace of God. If you are not a sinner, good luck.

Think about it.

Wealth

The older we get the more we realize just how much stuff has been accumulated over the years. Considering the clothing that hangs in our closet, we probably only regularly use ten percent of it.

However, there is something we should be accumulating as the years rush by and that is a wealth of Scripture.

Psalm 119:11

“I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

If you are lacking in this area, don’t fret because there is still time. Remember this is one of the few things you can take with you when you leave the planet.

Think about it.
