The Brain

That we only use 10% of our brain is a myth. Studies of brain activity have provided no evidence that only 10% of the brain is used.

Now that doesn’t mean that individuals aren’t living up to their potential as far as what the brain can accomplish. We must ask ourselves if we’re living up to our God-given prospective.

Matthew 25:15

And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey.

Matthew 25:16

Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them and made another five talents.

God gives, but are we using our head for His intended purpose?  Give it some thought.

Somebody

I always wondered why somebody doesn’t do something about that. Then I realized I was somebody.

–       Lily Tomlin

I’ve seen that realization played out a number of times in many a life. The Scriptures give us many examples of people who did not shirk their responsibilities in the past.

Isaiah 6:8

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?”

Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”

Esther 4:14

For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

Are you the somebody that can make a difference? Would the Lord have you do it?  Give it some thought.

Gambling

“Gambling is nothing but a built-in scam for the mathematically deficient.”

That’s not my statement, but one I stole from an unknown author.  However, it does hit the nail on the head. Some people gamble with their soul, their eternity.

Matthew 16:26

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?

Luke 12:20

But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’

Luke 24:25

Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!

The value of a soul should never be put into the pot of the gambler’s table.

Fear Not

What sits at the bottom of the sea and twitches?

A nervous wreck.

Did you get it? Do you know of any nervous wrecks? Do you know what caused the wreck to make it nervous? Help is at hand.

John 14:27

Peace, I leave with you; My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

 Isaiah 41:10

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

There is help for you nervous wrecks out there. Give it some thought.

Weight

The female steamer duck can fly, but only about 1/4 of the males are able to, and only before they eat! The rest are too heavy to get airborne. They use their wings as paddles and beat furiously across the surface of the water, never quite able to break into flight.

–       Source Unknown

Weight seems to also be a problem with most believers. They just seem to not be able to get off the ground because of their diet. Does the Bible address this phenomenon? Glad you asked.

Hebrews 12:1

Therefore, we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

Get rid of the weight. Run and then fly. Give it some consideration.

Mistakes

He who never makes a mistake never makes anything.

–       A. Lincoln

Come on, get out of bed and face the world. You’ll probably make some mistakes because you, like the rest of the civilized world, are not exempt. The Scriptures are loaded with the many failures of those called to serve, who continued despite a flawed testimony. If you get tripped up, regain your stride and keep running. We need you to stay in the race.

Hebrews 12:1

Therefore, we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

We probably all have a problem with individuals who believe they’ve lived a life of perfection. The truth lies in the following verse.

 1 John 1:8

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

Give it some thought; put some power behind your stride.

Exploitation

“Look What They’ve Done to My Song, Ma” (often called “What Have They Done to My Song, Ma”) is a 1970 folk song by singer-songwriter Melanie (Safka). It is a satirical, heartbroken lament about artistic control and being exploited by the greedy, commercial machinery of the music industry.

The word here is exploitation. Culture, politics, religion, advertising, government and fraternal organizations all take a stab at it. Have you ever been exploited? Do you know how to be protected? Here’s the answer:

Psalm 56:3-4

When I am afraid, I put my trust in You. In God, Whose Word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?

Psalm 37:5

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.

Isaiah 26:3-4

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.

Give it some consideration because we live in a dangerous world.
