Where Are You?

“Where are you?” (Genesis 3:9)

This is the first question asked by God in the Bible. Of course, God knew exactly where Adam and Eve were physically located. The question was for their benefit in relation to spiritual matters. What happened with their connection with God?

Six thousand years later He is still asking this to every one of us. Where do we stand in our relationship with the Creator? What have we been doing? Whom have we believed?

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Psalm 37:5

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.

Where are you? Give it some consideration.

Mind Reader

Are you a people watcher? I am. A people watcher listens to others carefully and tries to understand their world view. The believer who is gifted with this trait knows whether the individual being analyzed is right with God or not, based on solid evidence. Does the Bible address it? Glad you asked.

Romans 8:5

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.

It’s not that difficult to be a mind reader. Has anyone considered how your mind is doing? Give it some thought.

The Body

The Apostle Paul wrote many things about the church of God. The most impressive illustration that he used is that of being a body like our human body. If I jam my finger, everything that makes up my body will hurt. Every member is connected. So, it is in the church which is a body.

1 Corinthians 12:26

And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

We need to be partakers in each other’s pain. Many suffer trying to navigate through this life. Give it some consideration.

The Judge

Did you know that we are all flawed? Surely there is no surprise there. Hebrews 11 is an impressive list of Old Testament characters who, when examined, turn up flawed. Don’t be so hard on others because if your real story were known, you might be proven worse.

John 7:24

Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”

Luke 6:37

“Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;

Be careful how you view others. Give it some thought.

They Don’t Know

I see them protesting on TV and read their godless signs. They so want to create a world without God. Many believe the Bible is a curse on the human race and it makes people insane. My heart goes out to them because they don’t know what is ahead. Please don’t be a stumbling block to them, but be nice and consider them prayerfully.

2 Thessalonians 1:9

They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His might,

Matthew 25:41

“Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

Don’t they need our compassion? He had compassion on us when their belief system was embraced by us. Give it some thought.

Third Man Syndrome

Pup, here is a devotional I wrote that you could send out one day:

Third man syndrome is a reported condition where an unseen presence provides support and encouragement during life or death experiences. It is most commonly experienced by mountain climbers, but has also been reported by sailors, shipwreck survivors and polar explorers.

One such case was Sir Ernest Shackleton during his Antarctic expedition, in which he describes having this presence with his men while they remained trapped in the ice for two years.

Not sure about third man syndrome, but the Lord walks beside us through our hardships, too, and if we ask Him into our hearts, He never leaves our side.

Psalms 16:18

“I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me.”

Joshua 1:9

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Give it some thought,

Joshua

Wisdom

Father to his college student son: “Wisdom has been chasing you, but you have always been faster.”

Does the Bible address this phenomenon? Glad you asked.

Proverbs 19:20

Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.

Psalm 111:10

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!

God has given us a book full of wisdom that we can’t get from the world. Give it some time and consideration.
