This song became a hit in 1982 because so many had experienced the short-lived quality of love. Many who had once loved each other so passionately came, in time, to hate each other just as passionately. It serves as a critique of giving up on love too easily in a changing world.
I am so glad God’s love isn’t changing with the winds of time. If that were the case, He would have quit loving me a long time ago, especially when my love for Him has died from time to time.
But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
We love because He first loved us.
Because of His love, I know what forever is for. Do you? Give it some thought.
