Joke

My 85-year-old grandfather was rushed to the hospital with a possible concussion.

The doctor asked him a series of questions: “Do you know where you are?”

“I’m at Rex Hospital.”

“What city are you in?”

 “Raleigh.”

“Do you know who I am?”

“Dr. Hamilton.”

My grandfather then turned to the nurse and said, “I hope he doesn’t ask me any more questions.”

“Why?” she asked.

“Because all of those answers were on his badge.”

Some things are so obvious when you have the ability to see.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

What do you see? Give it some thought.

One Day at a Time

The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.

–       Abraham Lincoln

Abe sure hit the nail on the head with that one. God, in His great wisdom, just dispenses it to us one day at a time. No sense in worrying about the future, just figure out, with the help of God, how you’ll make it through today.

Psalm 118:24

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Matthew 6:34

“Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Have a good day. Give it some thought.

The Shadow

“What Evil Lurks in the Hearts of Men? The Shadow Knows!”

The Shadow is a fictional character created by American magazine publishers Street & Smith and writer Walter B. Gibson. He developed into a distinct literary character in 1931, but was, however, created to be a mysterious radio-show narrator.

The quote above comes from that show.

That statement echoes Bible truths.

Psalm 51:5

Surely, I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

Jeremiah 17:9

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?

1 John 1:8

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

Give it some thought and don’t deceive yourself.

Good news from the Jerusalem Gazette circa 04-05-00

There’s good news from the graveyard today:

Good news that the tomb is empty.
Good news that Jesus rose from the dead.
Good news that the Devil couldn’t hold Him.
Good news that death has lost its sting.
Good news that the grave has lost its victory.
Good news that we need not fear death anymore.

Luke 24:6-7

He is not here but has risen. Remember how He told you, while He was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.”

That’s still great news today.  Give it some thought.

Veteran

He is and was a veteran, a pilot, a missionary, a faithful father and husband. He is closer to a hundred now than he is to sixty. The red hair is gone, but the sense of humor and purpose remains. Some of his epistles need reading between the lines. His heritage is French with a dab of Scots Irish. Here’s his last email to me. (Not that he’s dead, just close to it).

Fear is an interesting study!   Having fallen over 40 feet PLUS a tumble of 75 feet down an embankment, took its toll. But it was a GROWTH period !   I embraced it, especially flying upside down in a biplane just hanging (open cockpit) in straps !  I add to that several engine failures going down in fields and mountains as well as being in zero conditions in fog.  “Mercies of God, what a theme for my SONG ” !

Psalm 23:6

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

I hope my friend outlives me because I’d really miss him if he goes first.

Love This Hymn

I love this hymn.

There’s a land that is fairer than day,
And by faith we can see it afar;
For the Father waits over the way
To prepare us a dwelling place there.

In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore.

I still have a few things to do here, but I think I can see the porchlight over there.

Philippians 1:23-24

For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. Nevertheless, to remain in the flesh is more needful for you.

Yes, Paul, I know how you felt. Give it some thought.

Fear

We fear men so much because we fear God so little.

–       William Gurnall.

That is a very fair assumption. Does the Bible address this phenomenon? Glad you asked.

Proverbs 29:25

The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.

Luke 12:4

“I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do.

Say what needs to be said and let God take care of the consequences. Give it some consideration.
