Tongue

In my trucking days, as I came to the Canadian port of entry, I would pull into the truck lane and park. Then I would exit the semi and go into customs with my paperwork. This particular time, I was crossing in my little Subaru and I stopped in the same spot as a truck would, two lanes removed from the truck lane and the custom house.

The Canadian customs official approached me slowly not knowing what insane character he would confront. When he inquired why I did that, I responded, I thought I was in the truck. He was amused and I was embarrassed.

There are many things we shouldn’t do without thinking and this was one of them.

The Bible has a lot to say about thinking.

Proverbs 21:23

Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.

To do what the verse says, we must always be thinking about the situation we are coming into.

Give it some thought.

Proof

How do you prove God is real? You don’t have to because God has proven it clearly to everyone in creation. All the laws of physics were not a creation of man, but man discovering how God holds the universe together.

Romans 1:20

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,

There is no more chance of man being a product of evolution than a Ford Mustang or an ice-cream float being a product of evolution.

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Newton’s First Law states that an object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an external force.

The question is, have you been acted upon by an external force, namely God?

Give it some thought.

Rockies

If you are traveling west towards the Rockies, you can see them from 100 miles out.  At that distance if you held up one thumb with your arm extended and closed one eye, you could block them out.  However, when you are 5 miles away, the awesome size of those mountains leaves you in awe. They will consume the entire windshield.

In other words, the closer you get the greater in size they appear.

The same principle holds true with God. The closer a seeker draws near, the bigger space He takes up in the life.

James 4:8

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

How do you do that? Read the Word on a regular basis and talk to Him from a sincere heart.

Women

There is much talk today about women breaking through the glass ceiling. Historically, there was a woman who did that almost two thousand years ago. Her name was Lydia.

Acts 16:14

Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul.

She was a business woman from a foreign city and her product was purple dye. This lady was the kind of individual who was attracted to light.

Light was the business the Apostle Paul was demonstrating in this city that was foreign to him. Have you come into contact with the Living Word? Has God opened your heart? What a breakthrough that would be!

Think about it.

Relief

In regards to music bringing back a certain memory, when people listen to music, it triggers parts of the brain that evoke emotions. That is the reason we mature folks revert to the songs of the sixties. We remember the carefree days with minimal responsibilities as we listen to those melodies. It gives us a brief mental relief from the struggles of the present world.

During his stay here, the smartest man in the world remembered his past and how different it would have been if only God had been his guide.

He left us all a message to consider.

Ecclesiastics 12:1

Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth,
Before the difficult days come,
And the years draw near when you say,
“I have no pleasure in them”:

The best way to use memory is to keep God in the forefront throughout your time here.

Think about it.

Kindergarten

We were sitting at our little table in kindergarten. He was able to color inside the lines, and the color he chose never had different shades in the same piece. I think the teacher liked him more than she liked me because he was so much smarter and engaged. This young student also had a way of endearing himself to classroom authority.

He was my best friend, and I didn’t figure out why he had that advantage until years later as an adult. This boy was two years older and better looking than I was which came in handy when we were out girl hunting as teenagers.

This individual chose me as his best friend and that never wavered throughout his life. At the age of forty-nine he passed away in his sleep, and I preached his funeral service. As young men we had both professed to be atheists, but at middle-age we both professed to be Christians.

It’s great to be chosen and especially by God.

Ephesians 1:11

In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,

New Creation

It is strange what time does.  I’m a six-year-old kid being kicked out of the dentist’s office. Whatever I did to cause such an eruption I don’t remember.  My mother was informed in no uncertain terms that she was to remove her son from his office.

As time processes things, forty some years transpired. He is now on a gurney in an ambulance being transported to a trauma center. The paramedic caring for him had a memory return from some deep, forgotten recesses of the mind. You guessed it, I was that caregiver.

I could have taken out a syringe, squirted out some saline in front of him, and then told him the story of a kid that was kicked out of a dentist’s office some forty years ago. Of course, you know I didn’t do that. I gave him the best of care like I did with all my patients.

My belief is that God causes these situations to happen to reveal to us that we are not what we used to be.  We have been renewed as a result of the blood of Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Think about it.
