Wilma

I remember Wilma, Fred’s wife, from the sitcom The Flintstones.  The series about a stone age family was a hit during the 60’s. Now that piece of trivia is a worthless memory in my cranial vault. The things I should remember are becoming fuzzier. Does the Bible address memory? Glad you asked.

John 14:26

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

Proverbs 10:7

The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.

Sorry, Wilma, but I just thank God for beneficial memories. Give it some thought.

Success

“Success is getting what you want; happiness is wanting what you get.”

 ―W. P. Kinsella

The author of this quote was a Canadian novelist and short story writer, known for his novel Shoeless Joe, which was adapted into the movie Field of Dreams in 1989.

Does the Bible address success? Glad you asked.

Psalm 37:4

Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Proverbs 2:7

“He holds success in store for the upright; He is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,”

Add God’s will to your life. Maybe that’s what you’ve been missing all along. Give it some thought.

Old Hickory

In the war of 1812, Old Hickory, with his toughness and durability, lived up to his nickname when he led his men into battle against the British. Men like that, although of dubious character at times, helped make life easier for succeeding generations.

We read the exploits of Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and a host of other Bible characters and see some admirable traits in them, as well. Truth of the matter is, the only perfect man that ever existed was Christ. Thankfully, He became the perfect sacrifice for our sins.

History, whether secular or Biblical, needs to be studied. Examples are necessary for our lives.

1 Corinthians 10:11

Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.

1 Peter 5:3

nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock;

They are the way to pattern our lives because of the lessons taught. Give it some thought.

People

“I love mankind … it’s people I can’t stand!!”  ― Charles M. Schulz

I’m sure glad that is not the opinion of God. Had it been, we would never have had a chance. Here it is in a nutshell:

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 5:8

But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Give it some thought and imitate it.

Old and Gray

He’s old and gray. What does he know about life?  It’s our turn to take the wheel, time for a younger generation to take over.  “Don’t trust anyone over sixty.” was the mantra of the sixties. However, the Word of God puts a different view on age.

Job 12:12

Wisdom is with the aged, and understanding in length of days.

Psalm 71:18

So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim Your might to another generation, Your power to all those to come.

Leviticus 19:32

“You shall stand up before the gray head and honor the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God: I am the Lord.

Give it some careful consideration.

Hope

Sign on the side of the highway: 25 yrs. ago we had Johnny Cash, Bob Hope and Steve Jobs.

Now we have no Cash, no Hope and no Jobs.

God, please don’t let Kevin Bacon die.

Speaking of hope, the Bible has lots of it.

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

Romans 12:12

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

The hope in the Scriptures is a sure hope. Give it some thought.

Heavy Hearts

Heavy hearts, like heavy clouds in the sky, are best relieved by the letting of a little water.” — Christopher Morley

Psalm 34:15

The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and His ears toward their cry.

Psalm 126:5-6

Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy! He who goes out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.

John 11:35

Jesus wept.

A few tears release the pressure. Give it some thought.
