Wars first started when a man picked up his club and swung it at another. They will continue until the return of Christ who will rule with a rod of iron. Our war as Christians is not out there but inside.

James 4:1-2 

What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.

Ephesians 6:12 

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
