Faith That Swims

I would recommend you either believe God up to the hilt, or else not to believe at all. Believe this book of God, every letter of it, or else reject it. There is no logical standing place between the two. Be satisfied with nothing less than a faith that swims in the deeps of divine revelation; a faith that paddles about the edge of the water is poor faith at best. It is little better than a dry-land faith and is not good for much. – C. H. Spurgeon

Spurgeon nailed that one and the Scriptures agree with that statement. Read the following verses:

Revelation 3:15-16

“‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.

James 4:17

So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

James 1:22

But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

If you profess to believe, then how about it?  Give it some consideration.

Wisdom

Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you would have preferred to talk.

–       Doug Larson

My third-grade teacher said she knew I’d be a politician or a preacher because I wouldn’t shut up. I didn’t accumulate much wisdom that year. However, the next two years were governed by an authoritarian and wisdom was a byproduct. Fear was my friend although I didn’t realize it at the time.

James 3:17

But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.

Proverbs 12:15

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.

Shut up and listen. Give it some thought.

Compassion

Matthew 9:36

When He saw the crowds, He had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

Compassion is more than sympathy; it’s the deep, gut-wrenching recognition that another person’s suffering matters as much as our own. The Greek word used here, splagchnizomai, literally refers to being moved in one’s innermost being. Jesus didn’t just feel sorry for people—He was physically, emotionally, and spiritually moved by their pain.

We could all use a little more compassion. Help with that comes from time spent with the King of compassion.

Colossians 3:12

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience,

Give it some careful consideration.

Looking

On a laser in a physics laboratory: “Don’t look into laser beam with remaining eye.”

–       Source Unknown.

There is one place you can look that isn’t dangerous and will be a guide for all your future endeavors.

Hebrews 12:2

looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:15

looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;

Jude 1:21

keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Give it some thought.

Coach

The job of a football coach is to make men do what they don’t want to do, in order to achieve what they’ve always wanted to be.

–       Tom Landry

Jonah thought he could run away from responsibility, but God was directing his path. Elijah felt the same way once, but God was directing his path. If you are a child of God, be careful with your personal plans.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Proverbs 16:9

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.

The Christian is coached by the best. Give it some thought.

Too Late

Overheard at the bus stop: “Joe’s chronically late for everything. His ancestors came over on the Juneflower.”      –       Shelby Friedman in Quote Magazine.

Some things you can be late for and some things you can’t. Does the Bible address it? Glad you asked.

Isaiah 55:6

“Seek the LORD while He may be found; call on Him while He is near”.

2 Corinthians 6:2

Now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation”.

Matthew 25:10-12 is the parable of the ten virgins, where the door is shut and the bridegroom who represents Christ tells those who were late, “I do not know you.”

How many were too late for the ark in Noah’s day? How many were too late in entering the promised land in Moses’ day? Don’t be late. Give it some thought.

Nothing

Some people would do anything to be able to do nothing.

–       Frank Tyger

That should never be said of a believer. Does the Bible address this topic? Glad you asked.

Proverbs 6:9

How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep?

Proverbs 10:4

A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

We’re not talking of physical work here, because most are good at that. We’re referring to spiritual work that so many neglect. Don’t wait for the Judgment Seat of Christ where a believer’s works are rewarded for faithful service or discounted as wood, hay or stubble.  Get busy in His service now.

Give it some thought.
