Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
He claimed to be an evangelist, and the church invited him for a series of meetings. What he lacked in the knowledge of Scripture, he made up for in theatrics. People in the congregation gathered around him and he blessed them all. One even fell to the floor by the touch of his hand.
The question I have is, why is a segment of the church open to such shenanigans? Here’s what Scripture says:
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth and be turned aside to fables.
These false teachers look to where the herd is heading and get out front. Here is the way it should be.
1 Peter 5:2-3
Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock;
